My Career growth and life at BGGTS……
It was in 2004, that I had taken a decision to join BGGTS, a company offering aftermarket service support for land based heavy duty Gas Turbines, which is a JV of two major power equipment manufacturing companies, BHEL and GE….GE is one amongst the top fortune 50 companies,…. BHEL is one of the largest public sector companies in power industry and a Maharatna company in India…
I joined the BGGTS Repair Facility, a state-of-art refurbishment facility for gas turbine repairs….the technology and the equipment and the processes were amazingly great and the employees as well…those were the days of getting acquainted with the men and machines and I went through an excellent process of mentoring and quickly catch-up with the work…This is visible everywhere in BGGTS
BGGTS Repair Facility is an ISO-9001, ISO-14001 and OHSAS-18001 certified and this gave a clear direction of the systems and processes in place and a clear direction and discipline of the way we work.
Working at BGGTS has given me lots of opportunities for learning and growth. It is pre-dominantly a high end technology driven company with the best processes in industry and the latest technology to operate and maintain Gas Turbines across the region…
I had an immense opportunity to learn the best practices from various GE facilities and BGGTS fosters an inclusive and a collaborative environment where employees have the opportunity to succeed. Employees are provided access to such avenues of knowledge centers, technical training programs, cross-functional training, GE leadership programs which all help employees to grow professionally as future leaders as we keep moving up the ladder.
BGGTS management is highly focused on Environment, Health and the Safety of employees at all times and promotes a No Harm culture. I had a great opportunity to interact with various GE leaders on the EHS front and with the excellent support of BGGTS management, we as a team achieved to imbibe the best global practices and also bagged some of the prestigious awards such as the GE Ecomagination Nation Bronze, Silver and Gold certifications, GE HealthAhead certified site, Nil recordable site for the past five years, CII awards for being the water efficient unit for NIL discharge facility and also for practicing some of the best EHS initiatives.
BGGTS focus on delivery of high quality products of global standards to our customers has inspired us to embrace the Quality culture by introducing some of the best global quality practices and empowering our employees to own Quality….and with the excellent support from our Management, we achieved the GE Quality Excellence site award.
BGGTS promotes a decision-maker-culture and all employees at all levels can become decision makers in their field of expertise…this has helped me to be more outcome-focused, take ownership of tasks and eventually helped me a lot to grow up professionally to senior roles.
During my tenure, I was given the responsibility to expand the repair facility by adding capability to repair turbine blades, fuel nozzles and 9FA component repairs and establish allied processes by working closely with GE experts which has further enriched my experience.
BGGTS strongly believes in nurturing future leaders and provides training and exposure to employees to take up leadership roles…..going through this process has helped me to prepare for my future assignments and eventually took over as the Head – Shop Operations in the year 2007 to lead a strong and diverse team of 100 employees. This growth in my career with lots of additional responsibility helped me to further prune my administrative skills and a new learning curve.
BGGTS also promotes various forums for employees to network with employees of other GE companies through various programs and this helps build relationship with counterparts and has immensely helped me to simplify my work and by sharing some of the best practices.
BGGTS management provides ample opportunities to groom employees professionally by assigning additional roles for a greater exposure and I had a great opportunity to discharge my responsibilities in the capacity as the Ombudsperson for a period of five years which further gave me lot of exposure on GE Integrity, Compliance & Controllership.
BGGTS also provides a complete cross-functional orientation and responsibilities, and inline with this initiative, I was provided with a role change during 2016 to lead the Services function. Such changes in a professional career give new challenges and ideas and of course, I am again on a learning curve of a new function which I believe enriches my career.
Many a people, when asked as to how long you intend to continue in an organization, my answer would be - as long as we continue to grow and keep learning…..So be assured that at BGGTS, one tends to experience both…!!
